You’ve heard the adage: “The devil is in the details.”

But Berlin-based artist Ashvini Ray sees not the devil but beauty.

Zooming in on different parts of the human body to take close-ups of various body parts, the Australian-born artist constructs stunning black-and-white photographs that address the beauty in the little things.

There’s abstract in her organic subjects, and it’s hard to tell if what we’re seeing are the images of a person’s ear, palm or collar bone, since Ashvini sands off the textures to obscure the true nature of the photographs.

In doing so, her photographs draw viewers in to ponder the everyday things we often overlook – and the fact that these “things” essentially make up who we are.

Photographs with a message that hit a whole lot closer to home.
